Theme night: Open Data
We are inviting to the first theme night of 2026. In this iteration, we are going to talk about Open Data.
- Date: Thursday, 2026-03-26
- Time: Starting 19:30, doors open at 19:00
- Location: At our Hackerspace (Zwyssigstrasse 45 in 3007 Bern)
After a brief introduction of the topic, there will be a time slot for Lightning Talks. These are short presentations with a maximum duration of 10 minutes. After a break, we want to approach the topic further in a discussion round.
The theme nights are an open format to which everyone is invited.
The subject
Data on votes, surveys, or measurements—much of the data collected or created by authorities is now publicly available. Under the term Open Data, vast data treasures can be found on the internet, mostly machine-readable.
But hidden behind APIs and as columns of numbers, the data is of little use. Only when it is processed, prepared, and presented or used in applications does data become information.
We want to exchange ideas about which data we have found and which applications we have discovered. And perhaps some of you have already implemented a project with Open Data—or have an idea for one.
Two weeks earlier, on Thursday, March 12, Prof. Dr. Matthias Stürmer will give a talk on the topic.
Call for participation
If you also want to give a Lightning Talk, you don't need to do anything except to prepare your slides/documents. Registration is not required. However, we ask you to keep the presentation short (about 10 minutes).
