Theme night: Home automation
We invite you to a theme night! This time, we are going to talk about home automation.
- Date: Thursday, 8th of October 2026
- Time: Starting 19:30, doors open at 19:00
- Place: At our Hackerspace (Zwyssigstrasse 45 in 3007 Bern)
After a short introduction to the topic, there will be a time slot for lightning talks. These are short presentations with a maximum duration of about 5 minutes. Anyone can hold a lightning talk spontaneously, no registration needed. After a short break, we will then take a closer look at the topic in a discussion round.
The theme evenings are an open format. Anyone is welcome!
On the subject
Home automation, or smart home technology, brings automation to our living spaces. Networked sensors allow the collection of data that can then be acted upon to automate the tedious tasks of everyday life.
Unfortunately, many home automation systems are always online, sending data gathered from our private realm to untrustworthy companies. Locally managed alternatives exist, but they require more time and attention when setting up. Competing standards and buggy firmware can lead to further frustration.

Call for participation
If you would like to give a lightning talk, you don't need to do anything except prepare your slides / documents. Registration is not required. However, we ask you to keep your talk short (approx. 5 minutes).
